ISSUE 3 /
A PLACE TO LEARN, DISCOVER &
EXPLORE THE EVER CHANGING WORLD
WE DESIGN IN!
✍️ Henry Cheney
We’re here to keep you inspired and informed, with a special focus on the intersection of four key areas:
![]() CGI | ![]() Architecture |
![]() Design | ![]() Technology |
Why these four? Because together, they define the future of creativity. At HBC Visual, our love for CGI has driven us to explore its transformative power across industries, and the rapid rise of AI is rewriting the rules of design.
Yet, we remain grounded in the timeless principles of creativity: the artist behind the tool will always matter.
There is no such thing as a new idea. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope.
CGI
In the world of CGI Unreal Engine 5.5 has been showcasing its latest steps forward in real-time rendering with Megalights, which sounds pretty mega. This video from their tech demo at Unreal Fest showcases what’s next in the Unreal world, where artists can work playfully, without limitations.
Architecture
In the world of Architecture, it was the Riba Stirling Prize last week. One project that was shortlisted that we think is brilliant is Chowdhury Walk by Dean Pike & Jessam Al-Jawad. Where housing in this country is a very real problem, projects like this shine a light on what can be done, especially when it is done well. Worth watching the video below.
Design
In the world of Design, the humble keyboard is something we have more contact interactions with than almost anything else! So it’s great to see some designs and styles that can match a more individual approach. Benjamin Ehrenberg has put together some great looking keyboard/mouse setups, which combo would you go for to brighten up your desk?
Technology
In the world of Technology, how about recycling your leftover date pits into products? Over at Dutch Design Week a collective of designers, architects, chemical engineers and bioscientists called Nawa are showcasing a project that bridges traditional farming and modern technology. A link that for the future of manufacturing and production is going to become more important.
Creativity is contagious, pass it on.
Doodle
Instead of relying on AI-generated images, we invite you to doodle! Sketching isn’t just for fun—it’s a way to unlock creativity and explore new ideas. Each issue, we’ll feature one doodle, and soon, we’d love to showcase your creations.
🎨 Grab a pen, unleash your imagination, and get doodling! 🎨

The riddle as to how they were able to build Crystal Palace in 190 days in 1851 has been solved. Standardised nuts and bolts! Nice little article about the work of Prof John Gardner in figuring this out.
